Heather Law, Career Development Specialist, GECD Career Services

Recently, Heather Law, Career Development Specialist in the GECD, spoke at the International Career Guidance Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Heather presented a talk to over 350 International Career Specialist delegates from over 80 countries on Career Development for the Net Generation (Gen-Y).

Heather described and demonstrated the various on-line initiatives the GECD has employed to innovatively reach students. Discussions included the ways in which the GECD uses facebook, twitter and LinkedIn to keep students abreast of various career related events, job/internship opportunities, employer interviews, career development articles and much more. Heather demonstrated GECD’s use of online workshops (with audio) as a way to help students access key career resource information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In addition, the career videos that GECD displays on its website were highlighted as a visual and effective way to provide students with concise information on pertinent career topics. This presentation allowed for international brainstorming and sharing of best practices on how to best deliver career information to the “Net Generation.”
