A record number of MIT students studied in Madrid, Spain, during IAP 2017, earning credit towards their degree program. Sixty-one students enrolled in one of three course options: Global Literature, taught by Margery Resnick; Spanish II, taught by Ana Yanez Rodriguez; and Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition, taught by Margarita Ribas Groeger. The three courses offered students a chance to earn MIT credit, while living overseas in a homestay and gaining firsthand knowledge of another culture.

On November 17, Global Education held its annual Thanksgiving dinner for exchange students studying at MIT for the fall term or full academic year. This annual event brings together current exchange students, along with MIT students who previously studied abroad, to share in this American tradition.

MIT senior will pursue advanced degree in computer science at Cambridge University.
Camilo Ruiz, an MIT senior majoring in biological engineering, is one of 35 American students to be awarded this year’s competitive Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Ruiz will pursue an MPhil in Advanced Computer Science at Cambridge University in England. He ultimately plans to return to the United States for further graduate studies in biological engineering, with the goal of creating new and affordable treatments for disease.
