Benard Wins 2017 Excellence Award

DUE Communications

Kudos to DUE's very own Kimberly Benard, assistant director of distinguished fellowships and academic excellence in UAAP, who was recognized as an Outstanding Contributor at the 2017 Excellence Awards in March!

Benard worked closely with a committee of faculty, staff, and students that reviewed MIT’s undergraduate leave and return policies and procedures (previously referred to as withdrawal and readmission). The group’s recommendations, released in spring 2016, have led to significant changes in how Student Support Services and the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) support students who take time away from MIT.

One of Benard's nominators wrote, “Kim’s work has had a significant impact on the lives of MIT students. I have been involved in many faculty committees in my 32 years at MIT. I have worked with many capable staff members, but I would put Kim’s efforts at the top of these experiences. Her efforts catalyzed an important review of policies and practices that affect all our students—especially the most vulnerable.”
