Two Students Connect MIT Classes with D-Lab Community Partners in Study Abroad Pilot

Published in D-Lab Digest, March 2013

This spring, Angela Hojnacki (MechE '13) and Cheetiri Smith (MechE '14) are taking part in the pilot of D-Lab's Study Abroad program, a collaboration with the office of PET Bottle SlidesGlobal Education and Career Development. Through the program, Angela and Cheetiri are living outside of Sao Paolo, working on projects with members of the Dois Palitos favela community and taking classes here at MIT, which they participate in remotely via WebEx.

The unique arrangement allows for Angela and Cheetiri, as well as their classmates in D-Lab: Design and D-Lab: Energy, to have a strengthened, long-term collaboration with their community partner as they work together throughout the semester to complete specific projects. Angela and Cheetiri are currently hosting other students from the D-Lab: Energy course in Dois Palitos during MIT's Spring Break.

Read a recent blog post from Angela which shines some light on her experience so far.
