A Great Undergraduate Education

By Dan Hastings, Dean for Undergraduate Education

This summer, I have visited with our students in Cambridge, UK; Singapore and Hong Kong (those of you reading my blog would know this). We are working with Cambridge through the Cambridge MIT Exchange run by of the Global Education Office, with the National University of Singapore through the International Research Opportunities Program (IROP) which is part of UROP,  and Hong Kong University through a program called Live, Learn in China also run through the Global Education Office.

I was struck by our students' energy and purpose as well as by how much they are learning in these new settings. I was also struck by how we are giving them a great education and enabling wonderful opportunities for them. I am pleased to see that they are taking advantage of these opportunities. I also visited with the new Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). This is a new university in Singapore that MIT is helping to found. In an indication of how much our education is valued, it is being patterned on the MIT educational model.

We all contribute to this great education for our students and we can be proud of what we are doing. We help our students, MIT and the country by our efforts.
