First Annual IAP UROP Expo will be Held During IAP 2011

Michael Bergren, Associate Dean for Academic and Research Initiatives, UAAP

The first annual IAP UROP Expo will be held on:

Thursday, January 20
2PM to 4PM
Kresge Lobby

Sponsored by the UAAP and OME, the event invites key MIT departments, labs, and centers to host tables, provide materials, and interact with undergraduates interested in conducting UROP research in specific areas. “This event provides a new strategic focus on informational programming for UROP” noted Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education Julie Norman. “For the first time, we are offering a venue where freshmen and others, who have not engaged in research, will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and other UROP mentors and gain the firsthand information they need to get involved.”

Several major academic departments have confirmed they will be represented at the Expo, including Biology, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nuclear Science and Engineering, Political Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Urban Studies and Planning. Members of the DUE Community who work regularly with undergraduates are encouraged to discuss the event with their students. Additional information is available from event organizers at urop@mit.edu.
