Enthusiastic Response to Graduate Student Teaching Certificate Program

By Leann Dobranski, Assistant Director, Teaching and Learning Lab

In October, the Teaching and Learning Laboratory (TLL) began offering a teaching certificate program for graduate students who wish to develop better skills to support their teaching at MIT. The program is designed to serve students with a variety of interests and career goals. Participants will complete seven seminars on topics including: writing teaching philosophy statements, designing courses and constructing syllabi, writing problem sets and exam questions, teaching interactively, and teaching in multicultural classrooms. Participants are required to complete session specific assignments and participate in a microteaching session to earn a certificate of completion for the program. There has been an overwhelming response  the program, with 91 students registered from 20 departments across the Institute.
