New OFS Staff for the Undergraduate Communication Requirement

Kathleen MacArthur has joined the Office of Faculty Support (OFS) as the Assistant Dean for the Communication Requirement. While new to the DUE, Kathleen is not new to MIT or to the Communication Requirement. For the past several years, she has been serving as the Coordinator for Writing Tutors and Testing in the Writing Across the Curriculum Office of the Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies and in that capacity, has been working with the CI-H tutor program and the Freshman Essay Evaluation. Kathleen has a Ph.D. in American Literature. In her new capacity, Kathleen will be the primary administrator for the undergraduate Communication Requirement and will be involved with student advising, managing the proposal approval for CI-M subjects and the CR budget. Also new to the Communication Requirement team and to the support for the faculty Committee on the Undergraduate Program (CUP) is Patricia Fernandes. Returning to the DUE where she began her MIT career in Admissions, Patricia joins OFS from the HASS Office. Patricia has an M.F.A. in painting and a background in graphic design. As a Senior Administrative Assistant in OFS, Patricia will be the main point of contact for students stopping by or emailing with questions regarding the Communication Requirement, and she will be involved in supporting the work of both the CUP and it's Subcommittee on the Communication Requirement. Anna Frazer and Genevre Filiault remain in OFS but have moved into new roles. In her role as a Staff Associate, Gen is focusing primarily on support for the Educational Commons Subcommittee of the CUP and on the implementation of recommendations from Task Force on the Undergraduate Educational Commons. Anna will continue to serve as the Executive Officer to the CUP and, in her new position as Associate Dean for Curriculum and Faculty Support, will work on undergraduate curricular programs and initiatives, particularly where they involve faculty.
